Check the pocket first. The phone needs to be in a tight pocket — thigh or chest — held firmly against you. A loose pocket swings on its own and the signal becomes unusable. This is by far the commonest cause.
Give it about fifteen seconds. EquiTakt listens before it plays, and again after every change of gait. The ring around the button fills as it gets closer.
If it goes quiet
That's usually deliberate. EquiTakt stops rather than guess — most often through transitions, or when a horse's rhythm is unclear. A steady silence is more useful than a confident wrong beat.
If it goes quiet somewhere it shouldn't have, tell me which horse, roughly when in the ride, and what you were doing. That's genuinely useful and it's how the app gets better.
What EquiTakt doesn't do
It won't tell you your horse is wrong. It reports what your horse is doing and leaves the judgement to you. That's deliberate and it isn't going to change.
